Study with Heather Series
The performance shows you the result. The practice room shows you how it was built.
When I was studying violin at the university, I remember wishing I could be a fly on the wall in the practice rooms of the great musicians and teachers around me.
Of course I wanted to hear them perform. But what I really wanted to know was how they practiced.
What did they do when something didn’t work? What were they listening for? What did they isolate? What did they repeat? How did they decide what needed their attention next?
Because I knew that if I could see the process, I could learn from it.
That is the inspiration behind Study with Heather.
After more than three decades of studying, teaching, and performing the violin, I still practice. I still experiment. I still stop, listen, take things apart, and ask questions.
In this series, I open the practice-room door and let you see that process—the decisions, discoveries, problems, and solutions that usually happen when no one else is watching.
A performance lets you hear where a musician arrived. The practice room lets you see how they got there.

Co-Practice
There is something powerful about practicing in the company of other musicians.
Co-Practice gives you a regular time to pick up your violin and work alongside me and other violinists in the Broadbent School community.
Bring whatever you are currently studying. I’ll guide the session, but your practice remains your own.
Group Workshops
Group Workshops are focused studies built around specific aspects of violin playing—from intonation, shifting, bow control, tone, and vibrato to repertoire, musicianship, and more intelligent practice.
Each workshop gives us the opportunity to slow down, investigate a subject together, and apply what we discover directly to the violin.
Private Lessons
Private study is for violinists who want precise, individualized guidance.
We work directly with your playing to identify what is preventing something from functioning as freely as it should—whether that involves tone, intonation, shifting, bow coordination, tension, technique, repertoire, or the way you are practicing.
Rather than following a predetermined sequence, our work is shaped around what you need next.
