WHAT VIOLINISTS ARE SAYING

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Hi, I’m Heather Kaye, American violinist currently concertizing in Yambol, Bulgaria.  After receiving my Bachelors of Music degree in Violin Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder, I freelanced with thirty plus orchestras and held permanent positions with five orchestras in the greater Chicago area spanning three states – Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa.  All the while continuing my education with concert violinist, Rachel Barton Pine, teaching 15- 30 students and performing chamber recitals.  My students excelled in school orchestras, holding concertmaster positions, were given the highest awards on a regular basis in district solo and ensemble, placed in state honor’s orchestras in Wisconsin AND Georgia and the highest award EVER – in 2010, a student of mine performed in Carnegie Hall.

When I first started playing overseas in 2010, I had an eight year old student beg me to teach her online via skype while I was gone. I turned her down for a few years thinking how effective can it really be and then finally I gave in….she was very convincing.

Sooo, thus began my online teaching. I was amazed at the effectiveness of teaching online and when I made a permanent move to Bulgaria to play with the Gabrovo Chamber Orchestra, I continued to teach my students online. In the process, I discovered the effectiveness of supplementing the lessons with video.

In 2012, I had a successfully funded Kickstarter project making educational videos for youtube and teaching Bulgarian children English through the Arts as rewards to all who donated to the project. Complete win win situation.

Since then, I have made over 2000 teaching videos for my online courses – thus Online Violin Education was born.

This CALENDAR CLUB is a direct inspiration based on the needs of students in the Online Violin Education Study Group.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Is the calendar for all levels of playing?

Yes! The calendars graduate in difficulty as far as position work. If you are not ready to move onto the next position, you can dedicate position time to the positions you do know.

Q: I play both violin and viola. Is your calendar applicable for both instruments?

Currently the calendar is only for violin ; HOWEVER, I teach it in such a way in the videos that you can apply it to viola. Just take the formula taught in the video and apply to viola. The only thing you do not have for the viola is the exercise written out on the page.
