Listening & Intonation
Violin intonation is one of the most important skills a violinist develops.
Because the violin has no frets, players must learn to listen carefully and adjust their fingers so that every note is placed accurately.
In this section of the Broadbent School of Violin Artistry, violinist Heather Kaye explores the listening skills that help violinists develop reliable intonation.
Topics in this section include:
• Developing a strong sense of pitch
• Listening for resonance and tuning
• Exercises that improve intonation
• Playing in tune across different positions
• Strengthening the connection between the ear and the hand
These lessons help violinists develop confident intonation so that technique and musical expression work together naturally.
Students who wish to explore a deeper approach to listening and pitch awareness can continue their study inside the Broadbent School.
