That is why I am here for you..to create a violin technique program where you don’t even have to lose time to think what to practice. Your technical practice is all laid out for you for you to see massive improvements even if all you have is 15 minutes a day of concentrated mindful technique practice.

IN VIOLIN TECHNIQUE ACADEMY I AM YOUR PERSONAL TRAINER FOR THE VIOLIN!

  • You are suffering from a lack of practice direction

  • You know your intonation and your fourth finger needs improvement.

  • You want concentrated and effective practice sessions.

  • You have no desire to waste time.

THIS ISN’T FOR YOU IF

  • You think you can learn to play the violin in 7 days.
  • If you think violin technique is unnecessary and all you want to play is pieces.

KNOWING HOW AND WHAT TO PRACTICE CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR VIOLIN JOURNEY!

Heather’s Most Popular Exercise training program, “52 Violin Proficiency Exercises” is now the meat and potatoes of Violin Technique Academy. This stand alone self-guided program presents techniques that will radically transform your violin journey propelling you from that dreaded violin journey plateau.

Program includes a one of a kind weekly exercise workbook with corresponding training videos walking you through exactly how to practice each  exercise. There are 52 exercises which can be practiced for one week out of the year making this a one year exercise program. Some exercises you will find to stay with you for your entire violin journey as excellent warm up exercises. The exercises of progressing difficulty are designed for fastest progress possible on specific techniques based on the dedication and practice methods of the violinist studying the exercise. The first exercise in the book stresses note reading for all violinists struggling with reading music; however, advanced violinists don’t despair, there are PLENTY of exercises designed for you as well.

Every exercise has a corresponding study sheet with guided questions to help you to know if you practiced correctly and what needs to be mastered before moving on to the next exercise. This study sheet has been made as a clickable/fillable interactive PDF allowing you to record your answers directly into the digital file without the need of printing if you so desire. Keep in mind, it is necessary to finish each exercise in a week. This is a self paced study program allowing you to progress at your own speed.  If you wish to do two exercises in one week, you may finish the program in 6 months.

Heather’s weekly violin exercise program, “52 Violin Proficiency Exercises” brings new levels of awareness to my violin playing and teaching. She breaks down complex technical issues into very manageable bits that encourage progress. What’s more, the exercises span a wide range of techniques that involve both the left and right hand. Thank you, Heather!

I came across Heather’s online academy searching for online violin learning resources as I was looking for a comprehensible pursue learning violin. I was instantly intrigued by the 52 violin exercises and went for it after much contemplation. It is indeed as valuable and effective as promised and I am also happy to find myself being part of an active online community where Heather throws in challenges every month and answers doubts and questions we may have concerning our individual processes.

I’ve been enjoying the 52 violin proficiency exercises for a couple months now! In her videos, Heather says, “I easily take violinists to the next level in their violin journey” which is quite some statement to make. But I believe it is 100% true!! These exercises are helping me to acheive the next level in my violin journey.

I’ve started playing the violin a year ago and I have learned so much already because of these these exercises.  All exercises come with a video which Heather excellently explains all the details about the exercise and how to get better at playing the violin. Every exercise is a new challenge and if practiced consciously it’s a great help to progress and focus on something different each week. I especially like the study sheets that come with each exercise. The questions in the study sheets guide me to practice better. It feels to me as if  Heather is personally there with me in the practice room telling me what to do. It’s really helpful to be completely focused. I’m confident that I’ll keep learning and enjoying my violin journey with the help of these great exercises.

Your weekly exercise program, 52 Violin Proficiency Exercises has truly been an inspiration and blessing to me, a homeschool mother of three. I am currently teaching my oldest son and two other children how to play the violin. I never would have dreamed that to be possible. So, from the bottom of my heart, Thank You!

I am loving the 52 Violin Proficiency Exercise Program, I find the video clips each week along with the exercise, helpful and concise, and I love the the focus of a violinist and a composer each week too, all very inspirational and keeps me motivated.  A very big thank you to you Heather, you’re style of teaching really works for me. Putting it all into practice and passing it on to my students each day gives me a thrill like no other…….I guess you know all about that.  A very exciting time to be playing the violin, I’m loving every moment !!

I found Heather because I had broken my left wrist (needed surgery and the whole thing) and I was so bummed and wanted to get back to playing as soon as possible. I found Heather’s wonderful inspiring video of how she was totally cured after her wrist fracture and I felt much better.

My recovery went very well and I essentially used playing as my PT. I also went to PT and brought in the violin to show the therapist what I needed to do. I was back at rehearsals in about 4 weeks. I am an amateur violinist but love playing. Thank you Heather for your words of inspiration and of course thank you for your wonderful 52 Violin Proficiency Exercises. What a gift!

52 Violin Proficiency Exercises gave me more confidence in my playing. I love the easy access and Heather’s form of communication. I would DEFINITELY Recommend this program to other violinists.

I live in Australia so being able to access Heather’s expertise on the other side of the world has been liberating for me. I have discovered a new love for playing violin through her very precise, thoughtful explanations that have encouraged me to improve playing.

When I have difficult passages to play I look through the Proficiency Exercises to see what can help me improve. One thing I have loved is having Heather’s voice in my head saying ‘Happy Playing’ reminding me of the joy it is to be able to play each day.

Violinists don’t have to be virtuosos before playing musically. So why not learn how to play musically within beautiful “adult” sounding Etudes in first position. Working exclusively with adult violinists, I have discovered the hunger to learn the violin in a more adult setting including Etudes that sound fresh and fun allowing for self gratification in the learning process.

This course is for you if you find yourself:
*Lacking in Musical expression  *Feeling blocked in the musicality department  *Unable to freely express yourself  *Lacking a technical skill set to even know how to express yourself musically

If you thought yes to any of the above then NOW is the time to foster your technical skill set for more melodic playing with beautifully written and gratifying to play first position 15  Etudes in 11 weeks. Play along audios and training workshops included.

$497

I have enjoyed the course so much, and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to review and solidify basic techniques. These etudes which she wrote will become the basis of my practice routine whenever I have an opportunity to practice.

I began this study with only one year of violin playing, and there were a lot of basic bowing and finger techniques which I never had a chance to work on before the study.

The local teacher whom I was studying with was only focused on correcting my bow arm, and she never worried much about my intonation or the finger frame on the left hand until pretty much towards the end of my study with her.

When I found out about Heather’s online courses, I became interested with her methods of building a solid foundation for adult learners. I first began with the Position Mastery class, which I soon found out was still way too advanced for me. So I waited until she offered melodic etudes for first position.  I thought this would be a fantastic opportunity for me to really focus on learning the techniques I need to be working on in a fast but systematic manner.

Indeed, throughout the course study, with every etude study, I had opportunities to work on different aspects of basic techniques.  Right away in the first etude, I learned how to use the speed of the bow, as well as its position on the strings to play more musically with dynamics, which was something I was never given an opportunity to work on prior to coming to Heather.

Also, Heather really emphasizes on a solid left hand frame. As she corrected my hand frame, my intonation instantly got better.

The hardest thing for me in the course was the drone exercises and double stops. Both techniques were new to me, so they will take me some time to get used to, but I am glad that I had a good start with Heather.

As an adult beginner violinist who wants to accomplish everything in a short amount of time, I was overwhelmed looking at the many techniques I need to master to play beautifully. Fortunately, I found Heather and her Violin Journey Mapping Program.

The program helps me focus on my goals, also helps me structure and organize my daily practice session. This is very important for me who started to play violin as an adult.
Aside from the technical aspect, the program also prepares me to be positive throughout my violin journey and appreciate ourselves more.

Frozen-whelm – when you find yourself frozen from overwhelm. It is the same as overwhelm paralysis. If you resonate with any of the above…the practice calendar was made just for you.

Fourth Finger Exercises for Violinists

Fourth Finger Studies is for you if…

*You are frustrated playing out of tune notes with your fourth finger.  *Your fourth finger is considerably weaker than your other fingers.  *You are frustrated that your fourth finger is not improving no matter how many scales you play or etudes you practice.  *You are tired of having a useless appendage on your left hand.  *You devise crazy ass fingerings to avoid the fourth finger at all costs.  *Octaves are hellish nightmares.  *You have sustained a physical injury that weakened your fourth finger.

Each exercise in the 105 page gets progressively more difficult combining the fourth finger individually with every other finger, stressing finger relationships, finger distance and encouraging muscle memory between fingers with practice.

Each exercise focuses on a specific interval occurring between the fourth finger and other fingers with 2 pages of “fitness” for each finger combination consisting of varying rhythms.

Not only does Fourth Finger Fitness cover fourth finger relationships on one string it emphasizes fourth finger practice for string crossings as well.

$14

Heather’s Fourth Finger Fitness program is going into my practice rotation on a regular basis. I’ve struggled with having a relaxed and well-positioned fourth finger throughout my time with the violin (35 + years) and Heather’s approach with centering and strengthening the pinky has completely changed how I view and use the fourth finger. Thank you, Heather!

“Thank you so much for the Fourth Finger Fitness exercises!!

As a beginner violinist it is not easy to start using the fourth finger. But these exercises gave me more confidence to use the fourth finger. Using the fourth finger goes almost automatically now. After going through your book, my fourth finger is as strong as my other fingers. The exercises help to strengthen the fourth finger, to have good intonation and to use it with a nice curve.

It’s great to really focus on the use of the fourth finger instead of only using it sporadically. And the exercises also help to achieve good intonation with the other fingers. So it’s a great workout to have good intonation for each finger!
It took me almost five months to study the entire book. And now I’ll just start over because I feel I really need it to progress more! I think Fourth Finger Fitness will stay with me during my entire violin journey!”

Heather started me on Fourth Finger Fitness in third position February 15, 2016.  This was a big step for me! This step has improved my understanding of the violin 10 fold!  I work on it everyday.  My note recognition and finger placement has improved greatly.  I am now reading and playing Etude in the key of C Major and the finger pattern exercises in third position just from this one exercise. Thank you Heather.

Fourth Finger Fitness workouts have given me the confidence to break free from worrying about whether my fourth finger is up to the task. Now I don’t think of it as being weak, but rather essential.

I enjoy playing through the Fourth Finger Fitness books. Not only do they help me with technique, they boost my mood too. I feel so peaceful playing through these exercises. I have seen tremendous progress in my 4th finger with Fourth Finger Fitness. It has more strength and is way more curved when I’m playing through technique books, pieces, or anything. The muscle memory that my fourth finger has maintained permanently because of the Fourth Finger Fitness books is amazing. Heather Broadbent is an amazing teacher and exceptional violinist. Her technique books match that expertise. I highly recommend these books and any book that Heather composes.

Work with Heather in a group setting online via Zoom with violinists from around the world.

Alumnis have access to all future workshops for the life of the program.

How to Hold a Violin Bow Step by Step for Best Results

Ever wondered how to play a specific bow stroke?

You may hear words thrown around like detaché, legato, marcato etc. and you have no idea the difference between a detaché and a martelé?

Take the guesswork out and just head to the bow stroke library to get your answers.

Violinists that have worked with me know that I probably over deliver….This Violin Technique Academy is the home for all of my written exercises and Etudes for First Position. I have projected to write 30 more and if I do….this is their home.

This is also the home for all Hand Frame Fitness Exercises in First Position as well.

New exercises, etudes also means new training videos.

Violin Technique Academy is a living organism. The excitement and needs of my students encourage me to create and write even more exercises and etudes for the purpose of violin journey evolution.

I’m so glad you want to know a bit about who I am. I always tell people who ask me how to determine who to study from that it is always good to investigate your teacher’s education. When you learn or study from someone, they will pass down information they recieved from their education mixed with personal experience.

The training you receive from me is filtered through a lifetime of studying and playing the violin (and piano.)

My education consists of a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I have had the opportunity to study from what I consider the best teachers in the world including Takacs String Quartet, concert violinist Rachel Barton Pine and Harold Wippler (teacher of Eugene Fodor, the first American to place in the Tchaikovsky competition.)

I have to warn you some people will tell you they studied with famous teachers even if it was just one lesson or masterclass they attended. My herstory is that I studied and trained years with these amazingly talented violinists.

While in the States, I won auditions for Wisconsin Philharmonic and the sublist for Milwaukee Ballet. I played professionally in over 25 different Stateside symphonic, opera and chamber orchestras from Chicago to Green Bay, Wisconsin to Des Moines, Iowa to Springfield, Illinois as section violin, principal second, associate concertmaster and concertmaster before performing in Europe.

Currently, I perform in Bulgaria with the Yambol Chamber Orchestra “Dianapolis.”

My students have won concerto competitions, placed as concertmasters and performed at Carnegie Hall.
