I started taking violin lessons the end of August, 2012.  In August of 2015, I decided to take a break from private lessons; however, I didn’t take a break from my violin.  In Jan. 2016,  I started lessons with a new teacher with whom I studied for five years.  I learned a lot but at the end of the five years, I felt I had gone as far as I could with her teaching.

I had been following Heather, through youtube, for many years.  When the pandemic came it opened up online opportunities with Heather that I just couldn’t pass up.

Fast forward to Gorgeous Tone Academy(GTA).  After my first year of taking lessons, I felt like something was missing from my violin training.  That feeling stayed with me until I enrolled in Gorgeous Tone Academy. 

Heather has a gift of just looking at you play your violin and finding the smallest thing that ends up making a big difference in your playing.  Heather’s exercises, ideas of what will help, and encouragement are invaluable.  It’s not just with technique but mindset also.  Knowing I can log in and go to whatever module fits my need at the moment is such a confidence booster.  This is my biggest takeaway from GTA.  I needed the tools to take my playing to a higher level and GTA gave me the confidence I have never had to this point. 

An unexpected bonus came during our final class recital.  Musicality!!  I can’t say how many times my previous teacher told me I needed to sound musical when I played.  I just couldn’t seem to do it.  I finally know what it feels like to feel the music and have it come through in my playing.  I give all of the credit to GTA and Heather. 

To feel free enough to express myself is incredible.  I no longer have the feeling that something is missing from my violin training….I have found it!!!

I enjoyed the Gorgeous Tone Academy so much, it was a great experience and a wonderful starting point for me! I have been able to go back and absorb more and more as I am ready to do so! I’m so glad you want to know a bit about who I am. I always tell people who ask me how to determine who to study from that it is always good to investigate your teacher’s education. When you learn or study from someone, they will pass down information they recieved from their education mixed with personal experience.

The training you receive from me is filtered through a lifetime of studying and playing the violin (and piano.)

My education consists of a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I have had the opportunity to study from what I consider the best teachers in the world including Takacs String Quartet, concert violinist Rachel Barton Pine and Harold Wippler (teacher of Eugene Fodor, the first American to place in the Tchaikovsky competition.)

I have to warn you some people will tell you they studied with famous teachers even if it was just one lesson or masterclass they attended. My herstory is that I studied and trained years with these amazingly talented violinists.

While in the States, I won auditions for Wisconsin Philharmonic and the sublist for Milwaukee Ballet. I played professionally in over 25 different Stateside symphonic, opera and chamber orchestras from Chicago to Green Bay, Wisconsin to Des Moines, Iowa to Springfield, Illinois as section violin, principal second, associate concertmaster and concertmaster before performing in Europe.

I am proud to say that my students have won concerto competitions, placed as concertmasters, and performed at Carnegie Hall.
