Violin Diaries – March 3, 2020
Last week’s concert was cancelled due to the coronavirus. At the time of the concert there were no reports of the virus here in Bulgaria, but the mayor decided it was best not to risk having hundreds of people in a closed space. So last minute, literally last minute, I walked into the rehearsal hall and recieved news that there will not be a concert and all rehearsals are cancelled.
How do you think I felt?
Well, a bit on a roller coaster that changed gears but I soon lost any feelings of disappointment and my partner and I celebrated an anti-virus party at Kukerlandia.
Exactly one week after the concert, the virus was confirmed here in Bulgaria. I highly doubt we will have another concert until May at the earliest. All inside activities and concerts have been indefinitely canceled here in Bulgaria.
I was actually surprised to see a wikipedia entry for coronavirus in BG one day after it was officially announced. At the writing of this post, no one knows who patient zero is and four people are infected.
Daily, I work on keeping my vibes high and I have spent easily 10 years devoted to vibrations and energetics. Currently, I steer clear of the news and I haven’t owned a TV since 2011 and even before that had years without an active TV in my house. I even stay off of social media in order to maintain my high vibes. I am truly quite the introvert and always has been.
My private mentoring sessions online are even limited on a weekly basis to select clients due to staying “fresh” and not drained.
As a positive energy lover, one of my absolute fave traditions in Bulgaria are the Kukers. It is a tradition that I have loved from the first moment I was introduced to it and I really had no idea why. The more I learned, the more I loved it. Interestingly enough, the 8 years I have lived in Bulgaria, I have lived in Gabrovo. Just this last year I moved to Yambol which is the home to Kukerlandia. The hall where we have our concerts has a museum dedicated to Kukers and their costumes. How ironic right?
Who or what are the Kukers?
The purpose of the Kukers is to scare off negative energy. Perfect timing right? My gift to you is sharing this wonderful tradition. The kukers are dressed in ornate costume with masks and large bells at the waist. Different regions have different styles for the Kukers but the purpose is relatively the same, to be uglier and scarier than any negative energy.
I found a great National Geographic video for you to take a peek into such an incredible tradition that has survived a millenia.
We will see what happens for the next concert but I would be surprised if I have a concert in April. In the meantime, I have released a huge heavy cloud of resistance to mostly everything in my life, playing the violin, exercising, working, creating etc.
The initial spark that drew me to the violin was completely crushed from a lifetime of study, perfectionism, negative self talk, auditions – failed and won, every creative spark sucked dry in orchestra rehearsals, twenty years of teaching, online violin education, making thousands of videos, writing over 20 exercise books, basic overall burnout…etc.
Obviously yes, there were phenomenal moments, performances, peak of my career, seeing my students excel in auditions and competitions and performing at Carnegie Hall. All polarized by a feeling of not living up to a percieved potential and unfulfilled expectations.
How did I clear the resistance? Whenever I need a thorough energetic clearing and I know exactly what for – I always go to EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique. After tapping on resistance, I was guided to heal my solar plexus chakra. Since I didn’t have a concert, I spent that weekend and the following week healing my solar plexus chakra.
In that process , I created beautiful practice charts incorporating the 7 chakras. You can discover more about them here.
Which brings me to where I am today in a much healthier place. For me my violin journey has been a tandem journey to the depths of Heather….who or what is Heather? Who are we?
Supernatural beings in a body experiencing a human existence.
Music is the connection to the divine, to our higher selves.
The kukers help us clear the negativity and layers of programming that we may think define us.
Here is to the depths of our journey.
Now, I would love to hear from you. When have you experienced a sense of connection in your violin journey?
In violin love and magic,
